828 FXUS62 KFFC 291048 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 648 AM EDT Wed May 29 2024 ...New 12Z Aviation Discussion... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Thursday) Issued at 325 AM EDT Wed May 29 2024 High pressure continues to build into the area with a drier airmass in place. Should see mostly clear skies Today with some increasing clouds Thursday as a weak wave moves SE across western and southern GA. A few spots may see an isolated shower or two Thu as this wave moves through. High temps today will be mainly in the 80s across the area Today and a bit cooler Thu with the increased cloud cover. Thursdays highs will be mainly in the 70s to lower 80s. 01 && .LONG TERM... (Thursday night through Tuesday) Issued at 325 AM EDT Wed May 29 2024 Moisture is expected to make a slow but steady return to the CWA over the long term forecast period. Friday will see a highly amplified ridge being diabatically pumped over part of the eastern CONUS with trough digging just offshore. Some rain or showers may return in the form of heavily decayed systems from the west by Friday, with some diurnal convection in W central GA possible. Chances of seeing diurnal convection will spread east by Saturday. Overnight Saturday into Sunday, a weak shortwave/convectively induced vortmax will pass to the north of the CWA, allowing for some moisture pooling and higher overall chances of seeing showers and thunderstorms. Not expecting anything organized or severe at this time. More summer like airmass settles in as we have southerly winds return by the beginning of next week, allowing for diurnally driven chances of pop up airmass storms. Highs may be a bit on the cooler side for late May/early June to start the long term forecast period thanks to some cloud cover and rain chances. Steady warming trend into the upper 80s and 90s by the beginning of next week. Welcome to summer. Lusk && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 617 AM EDT Wed May 29 2024 VFR conditions with no precipitation or restrictions to VSBYs expected. Winds will stay out of the NW through the period with wind speeds in the 6-12kt range Today. Winds will diminish to 10kt or less overnight. Will see some increased cloud cover Thu but still expecting VFR conditions to prevail. //ATL Confidence...12Z Update... Confidence high on all elements 01 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
