Weather Summary for Portions of the Central Plains
National Weather Service Hastings NE
748 PM CDT Tue May 21 2024

Following a brief bout of isolated severe thunderstorms with large
hail in our far eastern coverage area...particularly York
County...during the late morning hours Tuesday...the rest of the day
was windy but otherwise uneventful...as we were spared the damaging
tornadoes to our east that ravaged parts of Iowa. Looking
ahead...and focusing on these next few days...following some
scattered showers and maybe a few weak thunderstorms overnight
tonight mainly near and south of the Kansas border...Wednesday is
shaping up to be a pretty darn pleasant day...allowing some places
mainly in our Nebraska coverage area a much-needed chance to start
drying out again. To be fair...there is an outside chance that a few
spots could see a few lingering sprinkles in the first few hours
after sunrise...but after that the rest of the day is pretty much
guaranteed dry under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. Winds
Wednesday will be fairly light...generally 5 to 15 MPH out of the
west...as afternoon high temperatures reach the 70s. Mostly dry
conditions will continue Wednesday night into Thursday daytime...but
Thursday will be quite breezy out of the south...allowing
temperatures to climb back up to around 80 degrees. Then...things
will turn more active and stormy again Thursday evening and
overnight...as a complex...or line of storms is currently expected
to sweep across our area from west to east along a cold front. Some
of these storms could be severe...and our entire coverage area is
currently under a Marginal Risk...or level 1 of 5 severe storm risk.
