In 1935, while the Republican River flood continued across southwest Nebraska, a violent F4 tornado formed near Culbertson Nebraska and moved north northeast before lifting south of Curtis. Twenty two homes were destroyed as 40 farms were hit across Red Willow and Frontier Counties. In Red Willow County, three people died in one farm home five miles north of Perry. Near the end of the track, ten miles south of Curtis, a man was caught working in a field, and was killed by flying debris as he ran towards a storm cellar. In all, five deaths and twenty two injuries were blamed on the twister. In 2001, a brief tornado touched down 16 miles southeast of St Francis Kansas. The twister was visible from the National Weather Service office in Goodland, with a debris cloud present. $$
