278 WGUS82 KGSP 232203 FLSGSP Flood Advisory National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC 603 PM EDT Thu May 23 2024 NCC089-175-240100- /O.NEW.KGSP.FA.Y.0080.240523T2203Z-240524T0100Z/ /00000.N.ER.000000T0000Z.000000T0000Z.000000T0000Z.OO/ Henderson NC-Transylvania NC- 603 PM EDT Thu May 23 2024 ...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of Henderson and Transylvania counties in North Carolina * WHEN...Until 900 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 601 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to training thunderstorms over the headwaters of Little River near Penrose and Little River as well as feeder streams into the French Broad River near Brevard, Pisgah Forest, and Penrose. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen over the past 60 minutes. Some locations within the Advisory area have seen up to 2 inches of rain in less than 45 minutes. Resultant excess runoff may result in nuisance flooding across the Advisory area. The areas of primary concern include along the lower reach of Crab Creek and Big Branch near Crab Creek Rd and Cascade Lake Rd, Glade Creek and Lyday Creek near Old Hendersonville Hwy and Williams Rd and other low-lying and poor drainage areas near Penrose, Brevard, and Pisgah Forest. - And additional inch of rain may occur as a final round of storms train over the Advisory area. This may exacerbate ongoing flooding or cause new flooding to develop. Avoid all area streams and flooded roadways. - Nuisance flooding may occur near or within the following locations... Brevard, Dupont State Forest, Little River In Transylvania County, Penrose and Crab Creek. - Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain.
