418 FXUS64 KHUN 290230 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 930 PM CDT Tue May 28 2024 ...New NEAR TERM... .NEAR TERM... (Rest of tonight) Issued at 930 PM CDT Tue May 28 2024 Only high cirrus can be seen on satellite this evening as high pressure continues to expand across the Midwest and into the Southeast. This will translate into an uneventful overnight forecast, with drier air preventing widespread fog concerns. Look for overnight lows in the upper 50s/lower 60s thanks to radiational cooling. No significant changes were needed during the evening update. && .SHORT TERM... (Wednesday through Friday) Issued at 250 PM CDT Tue May 28 2024 Synoptic set up for the short term timeframe will be characterized by broad mid-level troughing across the eastern U.S. and ridge over the Plains states which will slowly shift eastward through Friday. A series of shortwaves will dig through the base of the eastern trough across the Great Lakes region while additional energy embedded in the prevailing northwesterly flow over the local region will pass Wednesday into Thursday. As the ridge pushes eastward Thursday night into Friday a more potent shortwave will deepen over Nebraska/Oklahoma on the western extent of the ridge bringing weather changes for the weekend. For the short term, this will result in periods of passing cloud cover as well as low end precipitation chances (less than 20 percent) Wednesday into Thursday. A few stray lightning strikes will be possible during this time. Rainfall with this activity will remain light with no severe weather expected. Temperatures will top out in the mid 70s to mid 80s all three days with lows continuing in the upper 50s to low 60s. && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through Monday) Issued at 311 AM CDT Tue May 28 2024 Upper level troughing moves over the Tennessee Valley and continues eastward Friday before a shortwave trough begins to influence the area from the west. This will bring increased rain chances (30% or less) that evening. Medium shower/storm chances (30-60%) stay in place through the weekend with any storms that form capable of producing lightning, gusty winds, and small hail. High temperatures are forecast to reach the low to mid 80s with overnight lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 624 PM CDT Tue May 28 2024 VFR conditions will prevail with mostly clear skies and light northwest winds. Chances for fog tonight are too low to include in TAFs at this time. && .HUN WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... AL...None. TN...None. && $$ NEAR TERM...25 SHORT TERM....KG LONG TERM....HC AVIATION...25
