...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1989, severe thunderstorms raked parts of the
Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley with golf
ball to baseball-sized hail and 60 to 80 mph winds.
Baseball sized hail battered counties just southeast of
Minneapolis/St.  Paul, while golf ball sized hail struck
Western and Central Wisconsin.Total damage estimates
are unknown, although around $1 million damage was
reported in extreme West-Central Wisconsin about 40 miles
northeast of Rochester.
