...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1931, an incredibly late snowstorm struck the Western
Plains.  Tribune Kansas received 8 inches of snow.  The
snowstorm caused a sharp temperature spike.  Four days
before the storm, the high in Tribune was 90.  On the day
of the "winter" storm, the high was 37.  On the 22nd,
after plunging to a low of 27, temperatures sky rocketed
to around 85.  On the 23rd, the high hit 91.  Garden City
also received heavy snow but the amount is unknown.

In 1989, extremely powerful severe thunderstorms moved
southeast from the Central Plains to Oklahoma Arkansas
and Texas throughout the day and night.  Only four
tornadoes were reported, but there were 243 reports of
large hail and damaging winds.Hail reached the size of
baseballs in parts of South Central Kansas, while
destructive winds reached a nasty 98 mph in Johnson City
Kansas, located in Stanton County.
