...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1981, an F4 tornado with a track 9 miles long and
around 450 yards wide, destroyed 90 percent of the small
town of Emberson Texas, located very close to the Eastern
Red River.  The tornado leveled 22 homes and several
buildings.  Among them was one church.There were no
fatalities, but 30 were injured.  One man narrowly
escaped death when the bath tub in which he had huddled
was hurled around 400 yards.  A 1,500 pound recreational
vehicle was thrown 500 yards.
