JOHN THE BAPTIST, SOUTHEASTERN ST. JAMES, WEST CENTRAL ST. CHARLES AND NORTH CENTRAL LAFOURCHE PARISHES THROUGH 315 PM CDT ... At 237 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a waterspout over marine areas 7 miles southwest of Killona, or 9 miles west of Hahnville, moving northwest at 10 mph. HAZARD...Waterspouts and winds in excess of 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous waters. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Wallace, North Vacherie, South Vacherie, Chackbay, Edgard, and Garyville. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now!
