Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
328 PM PDT Wed May 29 2024

.DISCUSSION...
Northwest winds will continue to lessen the marine layer coverage and
extent over Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties through Thursday,
but will also induce a coastal eddy which will keep the marine layer up
for Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. Those northwest winds will gust
between 25 and 40 mph through tonight over most mountain areas, the
Antelope Valley, and Santa Barbara County. Isolated gusts to 50 mph are
possible around Gaviota and the I-5 Corridor. Brief northeast gusts to
15 to 25 mph are expected over the mountains Thursday morning, then
onshore winds will return and strengthen Thursday afternoon through
Friday. Humidities will remain elevated and above 40 percent on the
coastal side of the ranges, including southern Santa Barbara County,
except for humidities of 12 to 25 percent over the interior valleys and
mountains.

Northwest winds will reform over the weekend which should lessen the
marine layer some. 5 to 10 degrees of warming and drying is expected
next week starting Tuesday or Wednesday, but the marine layer will limit
that warming to the valleys and mountains. Gusty onshore flow will
increase the risk for grass fires over the interior mountains and
valleys.

NOTE: Beginning Monday June 3, NWS WFO Los Angeles/Oxnard will enter
the fire weather high season operations. This FWF product will be
issued twice daily including weekends. The morning issuance will
occur between 900 and 930 AM and the afternoon product will be
issued between 300 and 330 PM. As always, National Weather Service
forecasters are available 24/7 for spot forecast requests and
consultation.
