Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Lubbock TX
302 AM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 300 AM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

An upper level ridge will hang out to our west today resulting in a
rise in thickness values and therefore higher temperatures this
afternoon. We will see a return to surface pressure troughing in lee
of the Rockies bringing light surface winds around to the southwest.
Otherwise, it will be a pleasant September day.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through Wednesday)
Issued at 300 AM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

Upper level ridging and associated high pressure will continue to
dominate over the southwestern CONUS through the long-term period.
Meanwhile, off to the southeastern CONUS the upper level trough will
interact with Hurricane Helene as it begins to move onshore the FL
coast before ejecting to the northeast through the weekend. This
type of blocking upper level pattern will allow for warm and dry
conditions in the 80s to lower 90s through the extended forecast.
One exception to these daytime highs will be Tuesday as an upper
level trough over the Great Lakes region swings a weak cold front
through the region, which will keep daytime highs in the 70s and
80s. Expect the cooler airmass to wash out as high pressure expands
over the Panhandle with above normal highs back in the forecast come
Wednesday.
