612 FNUS54 KMAF 231751 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 1251 PM CDT Thu May 23 2024 ...A RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING FOR THE HIGHER TERRAIN AND ADJACENT PLAINS OF WEST TEXAS AND SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES AS LOW AS 2 PERCENT, 20 FT WINDS GREATER THAN 20 MPH AND EXTREME FIRE DANGER... .DISCUSSION... Fire weather concerns will persist through this evening across far west Texas and southeastern New Mexico with with widespread relative humidities under 5 percent and temperatures 5-10 degrees above normal. Increasing winds over the mountains and the adjacent plains will yield critical fire weather conditions. This will combine with extremely dry fuels helping to increase fire potential in these areas. Overnight relative humidity recovery will range from poor across southeastern New Mexico to good across the eastern Permian Basin. Elevated conditions are possible again on Friday as heat and low relative humidity values persist. Critical fire weather conditions are expected Saturday as winds increase across the mountains and adjacent plains. The forecast looks to remain hot and dry until some relief arrives Tuesday and Wednesday. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
