260 FNUS54 KMAF 211907 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 207 PM CDT Tue May 21 2024 .DISCUSSION... Above normal temperatures persist the next seven days, with a significant drying trend underway that will see widespread RHs under 5 percent by the end of this week through the weekend. While winds generally remain light (around 15 mph for most), stronger winds are possible across the mountain areas, which could lend to localized critical fire weather conditions. ERCs west of the Pecos are forecast to eclipse the 97th percentile, thus even while winds won`t be especially strong, fires that start will have potential to grow and spread. Intermittent critical fire weather conditions will be possible, especially on Saturday when winds increase across the Guadalupe Mountains, SE NM Plains, and Upper Trans Pecos. Aside from a low chance of storms from Snyder to Sanderson on Wednesday, the forecast remains dry for the next week. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
