024 NOUS42 KWNO 220909 ADMSDM SENIOR DUTY METEOROLOGIST NWS ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE NWS NCEP CENTRAL OPERATIONS COLLEGE PARK MD 0908Z WED MAY 22 2024 ...IMPACTFUL NETWORK MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED IN THE BOULDER DATA CENTER TODAY... Today (May 22), NCO/NSB will be performing maintenance on the network that will impact connectivity in Boulder while hardware is replaced. Impacted customers include NOMADS data dissemination, the Boulder WFO, DoD partners NAVO and FNMOC, FAA, Space Weather Prediction Center, NLETS and SBN, VOIP for WFOs Boulder, Pleasant Hill, Grand Junction, Chanhassen, Wilmington, Peachtree, and Slidell. In the event of CWD, this migration will be postponed. More details, including specific impacts, are provided below. What: NCO/NSB is replacing the core router and edge router in the Boulder data center. Why: Existing Core router and Edge router are end of life and need to be replaced with newly purchased hardware. Maintenance Date/Time: Start Date-Time: 05/22/2024 1300 UTC (9:00 AM ET) Stop Date-Time: 05/22/2024 2100 UTC (6:00 PM ET) Impact Window: 1300Z to 1315Z - Intermittent network instability 1315Z to 1345Z - Let customer verify everything good over just one PE1/CR1 1345Z to 1500Z - We remove old PE2/CR2 and rack new ER2/CR2 1500Z to 1600Z - Boulder unreachable - Hard down (This is when we admin shut CR1/PE1 and add ER2/CR2 on the network) 1600Z to 1830Z - Let customer verify everything good over just one ER2/CR2 1830Z to 1930Z - We remove old PE1/CR1 and rack new ER1/CR1 1930Z to 2000Z - Intermittent network instability (This is when we introduce new ER1/CR1 in the network causing instability) 2000Z to 2200Z - Testing and Troubleshooting Impacts: All data that travels through the Boulder Data Center will not be available during maintenance downtime. Specifically, this includes: -No internet and other oneNWSnet resources available for Boulder WFO and Boulder Data Center Systems -NOMADS data will not be accessible -WFO BOU Awips systems will be impacted -WFO BOU Nexrad systems will be impacted -No BLDR VPN available -No access to BLDR sockets and any Boulder hosted IDP applications -WCOSS will not be able to access Boulder -No data to and from Space Weather Prediction Center, NLETS, and the SBN in Boulder -DoD partners NAVO, FNMOC will lose back up circuit out of BLDR -Boulder DMZ environment will not be available -VOIP will be down for WFO Boulder, Pleasant Hill, Grand Junction, Chanhassen, Wilmington, Peachtree, and Slidell (AT&T WFO) -SRHQ and WRHQ will lose backup path -Verizon and AT&T MPLS backup path -NWAVE MPLS backup path What will not be impacted: -Internet traffic for all WFOs, RFCs, CWSUs and Centers will be available via CPRK TICAP -CPRK VPN will be available -ANCF/CNCF and OneNWSnet AWIPS traffic will not be impacted. -Sockets will be available through CPRK -Remote access to internal systems and websites will be available via CPRK VPN -DOD CAC server will be available on the College Park VPN Gerhardt/SDM/NCO/NCEP
