Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Diego CA
900 AM PDT Sun May 26 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
Night and morning low clouds expected each day through the forecast
period, with the inland extent reaching the western valleys. A few
degrees of warming expected for today and tomorrow. For much of the
upcoming week, only minor variations in daily high temperatures are
expected.

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

Visible satellite imagery at 9 am was showing low clouds had filled
in the coastal basin overnight and were slowly beginning to clear
from east to west. Low clouds are expected to clear inland areas by
late this morning, with partial clearing along the coast. Low clouds
are expected to move back inland tonight, but coverage is not
expected to be quite as extensive. For much of the upcoming week,
the marine layer is forecast to get shallower due to minor height
rises in the mid-levels of the atmosphere. Coverage of low clouds is
expected to continue to reach the western valleys, with less chance
of coverage reaching into the Inland Empire, and better chances of
complete clearing during the day.

Today highs will be around 5 to 10 degrees higher than Saturday for
inland areas, with the most notable change in the mountains and
deserts. Not much change at the coast as the marine layer moderates
temperatures. Overall high temperatures will only fluctuate a couple
degrees every day this week and remain within 5 degrees above
normal: slightly below normal for the coasts and valleys and
slightly above normal in the deserts. A short wave ridge is expected
over the area by next Saturday which could bring additional minor
warming and a continued shallow marine layer.
