Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NE Wyoming and WRN South Dakota
National Weather Service Rapid City SD
150 AM MDT Thu Sep 26 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM MDT THURSDAY FOR GUSTY
WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE NORTHEASTERN WYOMING PLAINS
AND FAR SOUTHWESTERN SOUTH DAKOTA...

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM MDT /11 AM CDT/ TO 7 PM
MDT /8 PM CDT/ TODAY FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY
ACROSS MUCH OF WESTERN INTO SOUTH CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA...

.DISCUSSION...Warmer and drier air spread across most of the region
today, with humidities dropping into the teens across almost all of the
forecast area. Southwesterly winds will increase in most areas
during the morning before turning northwesterly during the late morning and
afternoon behind a passing cold front. Critical or near critical
fire weather conditions are expected across the forecast area during
the afternoon until around sunset.

Some cooler air and slightly higher humidity develops for Friday,
with very warm conditions returning over the weekend. Elevated to
near critical conditions will persist through the period, with Sunday
looking to be the most favorable day for red flag conditions.
Another dry cold front will bring cooler temperatures and gusty
winds late Sunday into early next week.
