065 FXUS65 KGJT 241739 AFDGJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Grand Junction CO 1139 AM MDT Tue Sep 24 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - Dry and unseasonably warm conditions are expected during the remainder of the week. Near record highs are expected from Thursday through the weekend. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 429 AM MDT Tue Sep 24 2024 A long wave mid-level trough deepening and moving toward the West Coast will drive high pressure over the Intermountain West eastward today. Models were consistent in placing the ridge axis directly over the forecast area by 06Z/Wed before the trough forces it to the High Plains on Wednesday. In response to high pressure, skies will be clear or mostly clear throughout the next 36 hours with essentially no chance for precipitation. Warming under the ridge will bring highs of about 5 degrees above normal today and similarly mild overnight lows tonight. On Wednesday, flow aloft shifts to the southwest behind the ridge axis driving temperatures even higher with afternoon readings climbing to near 10 degrees above normal and nearing record levels for some locations. && .LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/... Issued at 429 AM MDT Tue Sep 24 2024 Unseasonably warm and dry conditions continue to be the highlight of the forecast through the weekend with high pressure staying put overhead. Normal high temperatures for late September are in the upper 70s, low 80s for valley locations and in the 50s for higher terrain locations. However, it is very likely that high temperatures will be 10+ degrees above normal for the latter half of the week into the weekend. Some locations may even see record high temperatures as some valleys will likely warm into the 90s (60-90% chance). && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 1138 AM MDT Tue Sep 24 2024 Expect VFR conditions and light terrain driven winds through the TAF Period under mostly clear skies. && .GJT WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... CO...None.
