Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
238 PM PDT Fri May 31 2024

.DISCUSSION...
Onshore flow and a deepening marine layer will become prevalent through
Saturday. Southwest to west gusts of 20 to 40 mph will be common over
the mountains and interior. Isolated gusts to 50 mph are possible over
the Antelope Valley hills. Northwest winds will reform Saturday Night
through Monday, with local gusts of 20 to 35 mph over the mountains and
southwest Santa Barbara County. Humidities will remain elevated and
above 40 percent on the coastal side of the ranges. Over the drier
parts of the mountains and interior, minimum humidities of 12 to 25
percent will be common.

High pressure will build over the western United States next week
Tuesday through Friday while onshore flow weakens. This will likely
lower the marine layer some and allow the warmest coastal valleys to
approach 90 degrees. Over the mountains and interior valleys,
temperatures between 94 and 104 will become common with humidities
likely falling into the 8 to 15 percent range. While the winds do not
look strong, but the combination of hot and dry conditions with typical
breezy diurnal wind patterns will lead to an elevated risk for grass
fires.

NOTE: Beginning Monday June 3, NWS WFO Los Angeles/Oxnard will enter
the fire weather high season operations. This FWF product will be
issued twice daily including weekends. The morning issuance will
occur between 900 and 930 AM and the afternoon product will be
issued between 300 and 330 PM. As always, National Weather Service
forecasters are available 24/7 for spot forecast requests and
consultation.
