...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 156 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024

Quiet weather continues today as relatively warm midlevel
temperatures and a dry and subsident airmass remain in place over
the region. Upper ridging over the desert southwest will retreat
slightly westward today which may bring a very slight increase in
high cloud cover late in the day, but otherwise dry conditions
persist with warm daytime highs, seasonable overnight lows,
and light winds.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Thursday)
Issued at 156 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024

A dry and relatively warm forecast will continue for the foreseeable
future. This weekend will be characterized by an omega-like blocking
pattern over the CONUS. An upper ridge over the southwestern US will
persist with a deep trough over the eastern CONUS and a weaker low
in the eastern Pacific. This pattern will eventually break down
after the weekend with an active northern stream across southern
Canada into the northern CONUS. As the northern stream becomes
increasingly active next week, a cold front will attempt to make it
into the area around Tuesday and again around Friday. Temperatures
will generally remain between five and ten degrees above seasonal
averages through next week.
