Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
1224 AM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Thursday night)
Issued at 126 PM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024

A rather banal short term forecast is in store as surface high
pressure keeps conditions clear and dry. With light winds expected
tonight, temperatures cool into the 50s to low 60s for most. As
upper level ridging meanders a little closer to the area tomorrow,
highs respond by inching up a degree or two over today though still
remaining about normal for late September. As clear and nearly calm
conditions continue into Thursday night, temperatures once again dip
into the 50s to low 60s. More of the same can be expected in the
long term below.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through Tuesday)
Issued at 126 PM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024

The southern High Plains will remain under weak northerly flow
aloft, sandwiched between a persistent upper ridge over the Four
Corners region and a deep (but filling) low over the Southeast.
Benign weather conditions are forecast, with high (> 80 percent)
confidence in the NBM solution in the long term portion of this
forecast. As such, high temperatures will be mainly in the 80s to
lower 90s (with the notable exception of Rio Grande Village, which
will warm to near 100 degrees). Overnight lows will be in the 50s
and 60s. Winds will be light, becoming more northerly early next
week as a weak cold front pushes in from the central and northern
Plains. Precipitation chances will remain near nil through the
middle of next week. -bc
