.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 221 PM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY...Early afternoon satellite imagery shows not a
cloud in the sky across the region. An area of surface high pressure
was located to the southeast, allowing for southerly winds to
develop across the area. A pressure trough extended southward across
the Dakotas from a surface low that was centered over Manitoba.
Tomorrow that surface low will track east/northeast, and the
pressure trough will become washed out as the surface flow
becomes influenced by the remnants of Helene moving across the
Tennessee River Valley. Temperatures will continue warm, but
winds will be light. Looking ahead, warm temperatures with highs
in the low 80s will continue through the weekend.

MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY... Dry weather will continue, but
temperatures will cool off a bit as a cold front passes through dry
on Monday. This cold front will have breezy southwest winds ahead of
it, and breezy northwest winds behind it, along with low humidity.
This will lead to elevated fire weather conditions on Monday.
Depending on the timing of the front, highs on Monday in the Twin
Cities could reach 80, which could end up being the 19th day with
highs in the 80s, breaking the all-time record of 18 days at KMSP
set back in 1908. Highs on Tuesday will be closer to the mid 60s,
rebounding back to near 70s for Wednesday and Thursday.
