114 FXUS63 KMPX 222016 AFDMPX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN 316 PM CDT Sun Sep 22 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - A gradual warming trend through the week with little chance for rain. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 316 PM CDT Sun Sep 22 2024 A much cooler and drier airmass has pushed in across the Upper Midwest with rain remaining well southeast across the mid Missouri Valley and Great Lakes. The cool and dry airmass will set up a rather chilly night by this month`s standards so far but not too much below normal for this time of year. Lows in the 40s are expected, with some upper 30s possible in WI and central MN. As the pattern shifts to a warmer one later in the week, a preceding trough could bring a few showers to southwestern MN Monday night and Tuesday morning. Otherwise, no precipitation is expected through Friday. The trough passing through early in the week will become a cutoff low over the southeastern U.S. and result in an Omega block across the CONUS. The Upper Midwest will be situated under anomalously high heights with the ridge axis extending well north into central and northern Canada. Highs will increase a bit each day, to possibly the low 80s late week. The upper low and a likely strengthening tropical system in the Gulf will interact and eventually merge somewhere over the southeastern quadrant of the country which could spread some showers north to our region next weekend. For now only slight chc PoPs make a return to the forecast. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z MONDAY/...
