At 249 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated moderate to locally heavy rain continues to fall across the warned area. Between 2.5 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen since 1 am for areas just west of the town of South Boston. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will continue through 4 am. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... South Boston... Halifax... Turbeville... Cluster Springs... This includes the following streams and drainages... Coleman Creek, Bales Spring Branch, Ballous Creek, Big Toby Creek, Birch Creek, Banister River, Dan River and Butrum Creek. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
