714 FXUS65 KVEF 230821 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 121 AM PDT Mon Sep 23 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Dry, mild, and warmer than normal temperatures are on tap for the region this week as a ridge of high pressure builds over the western US. && .SHORT TERM...Today and Tomorrow. 500 mb heights will continue to increase over the next few days, allowing for this weekend`s warming trend to continue into the work week. Temperatures today and tomorrow will top out around 3 to 7 degrees above normal for late September. Outside of these warmer than normal temperatures, weather during the short term will be relatively uneventful with dry conditions persisting and typical afternoon breezes each day. .LONG TERM...Wednesday through Sunday. The ridge remains in place over the southwestern United States through the end of the week, supporting temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above average for late September. The latest NBM run gives Las Vegas a 25 percent chance of reaching 100 on Wednesday, increasing to a 50 percent chance by Saturday. Probabilities decrease and statistical spread widens Sunday as low pressure off the California coast begins to push east. Major HeatRisk should fade out of the area by Sunday, leaving Moderate HeatRisk along the Colorado River and in Death Valley. Besides heat, a slight uptick in winds appears possible on Wednesday in the southern Great Basin as a trough passes to the north and a low level jet moves through northern and central Nevada. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Light winds with northeasterly components during the afternoon and southwest components overnight will continue through Tuesday. VFR conditions with no significant clouds. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...Diurnal winds generally 10kts or less are expected at the regional TAF sites through Tuesday.
