An upper level trough passing through the region today will lead to widespread critical fire weather conditions. Locally extreme fire weather is expected east of the central mountain chain with the strongest wind gusts up to 50 mph and single digit humidity. A weak cold front will slide through the region late today and allow winds to gradually shift out of the west. West to northwest winds will be breezy again Sunday with one more round of critical fire weather possible over the high plains of eastern NM. A break is expected early next week as moisture begins sloshing around eastern NM and winds trend lighter areawide. A few showers and storms may occur closer to the Texas border and parts of northeast NM next week.
