.DISCUSSION...Today and tonight...Temperatures will be cooler with
higher humidities on the plains today behind a weak cold front.
There will be a period of north winds this morning, but they will
diminish this afternoon. In the mountains there will be little
change from yesterday. An isolated shower or thunderstorm is
possible in the late afternoon over the mountains along and south
of I-70.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Saturday through Tuesday...
Record highs or near record highs are forecast nearly every day
during the extended with the exception of Tuesday. No rain is
expected throughout the entire long term period and with limited
moisture, minimum relative humidity will drop to the teens each day
across the plains, lower foothills, and mountain valleys. Winds will
be below 20 mph on Saturday so no critical fire weather conditions
are expected. By Sunday, winds may increase with gusts up to 20-25
mph across the eastern plains which could lead to elevated fire
weather conditions. Monday has the potential for a brief period of
critical fire weather conditions especially across the plains. This
is due to a cold front that will bring strong wind gusts up to 40
mph while humidity stays around 15 percent. The higher terrain may
experience elevated fire weather conditions on Tuesday as winds will
be strongest and humidity will be lowest there. It is still far out
but Wednesday may have the best potential for widespread critical
fire weather conditions due to record warm and breezy weather. Smoke
dispersal will be good to excellent this weekend through next week.
