.SYNOPSIS...Hurricane Helene is currently moving northwestward in
the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to undergo significant
strengthening as it moves to north or north-northeast through the
eastern Gulf of Mexico before making landfall as a major
hurricane along the Florida Big Bend coast Thursday evening.
Resulting swell is anticipated to begin building wave heights and
seas Thursday morning. Meanwhile, a weak cold front is expected
to pass through the Lower Texas Coast tonight into tomorrow
morning, which may result in a slight to low chance of showers and
thunderstorms ahead of the front, followed by a brief period of
moderate to fresh northerly winds through Thursday evening. The
combined effects of the winds in the wake of the front`s passage
as well as the arriving swell will likely warrant the issuance of
Small Craft Exercise Caution and Small Craft Advisories Thursday
into Friday.
