...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 6 PM CDT THIS
EVENING...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 114 expected.

* WHERE...Brooks, Inland Cameron, Inland Kenedy, Inland Willacy, Jim
  Hogg, Northern Hidalgo, Southern Hidalgo, Starr, and Zapata
  Counties.

* WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 6 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
  extreme heat and high humidity events.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Coastal areas of Cameron and Willacy Counties
  including South Padre Island will see heat indices up to 109
  degrees.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives, neighbors, workers, and the
elderly.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.
