696 FXUS64 KEWX 252331 AFDEWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 631 PM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Thursday night) Issued at 249 PM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 A few showers and thunderstorms will develop along a southward advancing cold front through early evening. Some of these could be on the strong side with gusty winds being the primary hazard. Otherwise, most locations stay dry with the exception being those with that 20% chance south of Highway 90/I-10. Temperatures have still managed to warm into the upper 80s to mid 90s despite the passage of the front. North to northeasterly winds will bring in drier air overnight, but the relatively cooler air is nowhere to be found. Sadly, this front won`t bring significant relief in terms of afternoon temperatures, however, it will bring much-needed cooler and more comfortable mornings for the region both tonight and Thursday night. Expect lows in the 50s for the Hill Country, with 60s elsewhere by tonight and tomorrow night. Otherwise, breezy northerly winds look to continue tomorrow with highs in the mid to upper 80s and lower 90s. && .LONG TERM... (Friday through Wednesday) Issued at 249 PM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 A mid and upper level low combined with the remnants of `Helene` will remain anchored over the southeastern U.S. into the middle Mississippi River valley through the end of the week. On the backside of this low, north to northwest flow remains intact on Friday with the medium range models showing a weak upper disturbance dropping southward into the region into the upcoming weekend. Dry air on the backside of this should limit any rain chances in the long-term portion of the forecast. The dry air in the low-levels combined with clear skies will allow for overnight lows will dip into the mid to upper 50s over the Hill Country, with lower to mid 60s elsewhere. Daytime highs will range from the mid 80s to mid 90s, with the warmest temperatures out west along the Rio Grande. For the early portion of next week, the mid and upper level ridge axis begins to build eastward into the southern U.S. plains. Temperatures may warm slightly on Monday, with models still showing a surge of cooler air possibly moving into the region on Tuesday. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 630 PM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 The cold front will continue to clear south of the area this evening. VFR conditions are forecast through the next 36 hours. One note, HREF is indicating SCT to possible BKN 3500-4500 Cu field to the northeast wrapping southwest into the portions of the area east of the I-35 corridor overnight. Gusty N to NE winds early this evening are forecast to weaken after sunset to around 5-10 KT most locations, 10-12KT near SAT. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
