...FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of western North Carolina, including the
  following counties, Henderson and Transylvania.

* WHEN...Until 900 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams
and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks,
greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and
parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible.
  A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A
small culvert washout or two is possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 759 PM EDT, Heavy rainfall has ended across Henderson and
Transylvania counties. Between 4:30 and 6:30 pm, 1.5-3
inches of rain fell from Brevard to Pisgah Forest to Penrose
to Etowah with several gauges reporting 1.5-2 inches of rain
fell in less than 60 minutes. This resulted in excessive
runoff and significant rises on small streams, including Crab
Creek, Little River, Glade Creek, and Lyday Creek. These
small streams and drainages have crested and are receding,
while the resultant floodwave is moving into the French Broad
River near Blantyre. While the French Broad River will stay
well within its banks, the Flood Advisory will remain in
effect until the expiration time of 9:00pm to allow all
streams to crest and floodwaters to fully recede. Please
continue to obey all barricades and avoid flooded roadways.

  - Additional storms are expected later this evening. They may
produce another 1-2 inches of rainfall as they move through
the area. Due to saturated soils and high stream flows, this
additional rainfall may be enough to cause new areas of
flooding to develop. Stay weather aware and be mindful of
    rising streams.

  - Nuisance flooding may continue near or within the following
    locations...
Brevard, Dupont State Forest, Little River, Penrose,
    Connestee and Crab Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
