Dry conditions and warmer than average temperatures prevail for the next several days. 2. Low afternoon humidity will occur, even with the slight moderation in temperatures today, in locations along with poor to moderate overnight recoveries in the mountains and desert. && .DISCUSSION... The ridge that has been over Central California for the last few days will continue to be stuck in place for the next several days due to the tropical system, Hurricane Helene, in the Gulf of Mexico. There will be a slight decrease in daytime temperatures today due to the passing of a weak trough through Washington this morning, after which the ridge will build back into the area. A small area of low pressure is expected to visit the southern portion of California, resulting in a slight decrease of a few degrees from Saturday to Sunday. After that weakens, the ridge over the Pacific will build back into the Central California area, which may increase temperatures in the valley into the triple digits on Tuesday, the first of the month, and Wednesday, with probabilities of 20 to 50% for those temperatures in the valley. Looking into the long term, a more substantial trough is expected to drop down from the Gulf of Alaska into the northwestern coast of the CONUS, resulting in a cooling trend beginning on next Thursday and going through at least the next weekend. The current probabilities for less than 90 degrees during Friday through Sunday 40 to 70%, increasing with time. Low humidities and poor to moderate recovery will continue through at least next Thursday. && .AVIATION...VFR conditions will prevail across the central CA interior over the next 24 hours. && .AIR QUALITY ISSUES...
