In 1987, severe thunderstorms developed along a cold front from Minnesota to Texas.Iowa was hit particularly hard, suffering around $10 million in crop damage. In Northeast Iowa, Laporte City was battered by baseball sized hail and in Northwest Iowa, 80 mph winds whipped through the town of Laurens. Meanwhile Kansas City was ripped by 75 mph winds. && In 1988, severe thunderstorms struck the Texas Panhandle. An F2 tornado struck Southwest Amarillo, causing around $300,000 damage, while much of the area was deluged by 5 inches of rain. Some roads were flooded to depths of 5 feet and left Lawrence Lake 1 mile out of its banks. $$ Auto
