...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1999, stationary thunderstorms set up camp over
Wichita.  The rain began on the evening of the 26th and
continued until early in the morning of the 27th.  Many
rainfall records were set.  Among them: 3.85 inches in
one hour, 4.89 inches in 2 hours, and 5.63 inches in 3
hours.A total of 7.93 inches of rain were measured at
Mid-Continent Airport in a 24-hour period which is the
third highest on record, while 8.02 inches fell over the
2-day period of September 26th and 27th.  The 24-hour
record is 10.31 inches which occurred on September 12th,
2008.

In 2010, a historic heat wave scorched Southern
California as Los Angeles set their all-time record high
of 113 degrees.
