OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
302 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

High pressure around 30.1 inches will shift to the east of the
region today. The remnants of tropical system Helene will move
into the Ohio Valley today, with central pressure expected to be
around 28.9 inches around mid day, weakening to 29.2 late tonight.
This will bring increasing northeast winds over the southern
third of the lake, with gales developing this afternoon and
continuing into tonight. A Gale Warning is now in effect.

The remnants of Helene will continue to weaken to 29.5 inches by
Saturday afternoon, while remaining nearly stationary over the
lower Ohio Valley.

The tropical low will weaken and dissipate by Sunday, with high
pressure around 30.3 inches returning late Sunday, with somewhat
weaker northeast winds.

A strong cold front is then expected to move across the lake late
Monday night or early Tuesday, with winds behind the front
approaching gale force for mid week.
