Damage was first observed along the corner of Brackett Cemetery Road and Lone Star Road (Route 1391) where several properties had tree damage. Several trees had isolated large branches damaged that had evidence of weak or diseased spots, while other nearby healthy trees had no observable damage. Large branch damage that fell across Brackett Cemetery Road was mainly in the northeast direction, consistent with straight line wind damage. Some other branches were in the east southeast direction with a minor divergence from the wind pattern, also consistent with straight line wind damage with a top wind speed of 80 mph. While some tree branches appeared to have twisting, upon a closer look the fail point was likely caused by a weak spot in the limbs and then the straight line wind pushed the branches in the northeast direction. A nearby homeowner mentioned in an interview that leaves were swirling above his property, which were likely caught up and lofted by the initial gust front from a nearby wooded tree line. The damage survey continued to the east at Millerstown Loop (alongside route 224) where isolated large branches were observed. One residence had damage to trees and a pop up tent trailer. An interview with the homeowner revealed the camper was in poor condition before the storm and the damage observed was mostly a debris pile from the camper that was moved by the storm. Damage at this location was consistent with 60 mph winds. The National Weather Service would like to thank Hardin County Emergency Management, nearby residents for their additional information, and Upton Fire and Rescue for their assistance with the damage survey. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ MK
