198 FXUS65 KRIW 241042 AFDRIW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Riverton WY 442 AM MDT Tue Sep 24 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - An amazing fall day across the Cowboy State today with warm and dry conditions. - Warming continues through the week with well above normal temperatures expected for Wednesday through Friday. - Elevated to critical fire weather conditions will be possible Wednesday/Thursday due to increasing winds, low RH, and warm temperatures. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 138 AM MDT Tue Sep 24 2024 A pleasant fall day with warm and dry conditions across the Cowboy State today. Skies will remain mostly clear and temperatures will begin to warm with highs slightly above normal for today. Areas east of the Divide can see temperatures in the mid to upper 70s with areas west of the Divide seeing values in the low 70s. Skies will be mostly clear with light winds. Quiet weather is expected to prevail throughout the remainder of the week as high pressure builds in across the region. Temperatures are forecast to warm up with above normal values expected for the second half of the week. Models continue to show high temperatures Wednesday-Friday reaching well above normal values. 700 MB temperatures are forecast to range from 12 to 17 C. This translates to surface temperatures ranging from the upper 70s across the west and mid 80s to low 90s east of the Divide. Based off these forecasted highs, many locations may be within a few degrees of record high values. One thing to monitor for the middle of the week will be fire weather conditions. Wednesday will see a shortwave move across the PACNW, which will begin to tighten the pressure gradient for Wednesday and Thursday. Winds are expected to increase as a result of this, with gusts of 20 to 30 mph possible at times during the afternoon/evening on Wednesday and Thursday. The strongest of winds will be across portions of Johnson, Natrona, Fremont, and Sweetwater Counties along with the wind corridor. Due to well above normal temperatures, gusty winds, and low RH values elevated to critical fire weather conditions may be possible for Wednesday and Thursday afternoon/evening. As of right now no highlights will be issued but the situation will need to be monitored. Ridging looks to persist across the region well into next weekend keeping any disturbances well to the north of the area. The next chance for precipitation does not look to arrive until the start of next week but chances are looking slim with little agreement among models. If models do not end up changing its very likely we will see dry and warm conditions continue into the end of September. && .AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 437 AM MDT Tue Sep 24 2024 VFR conditions will prevail through the period. High clouds will continue to exit to the southeast, with SKC skies across the forecast area by 16Z.
