...Sunday`s storm damage in Salem, VA has been preliminarily
rated as an EF-1 Tornado...

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Blacksburg
continue to survey damage from severe thunderstorms that moved
through the City of Salem on May 26, 2024. So far, the team has
found damage consistent with that of an EF-1 tornado, with maximum
wind speeds between 100 and 105 miles per hour.

Again, the storm survey is ongoing. A final assessment, including
results of the survey, as well as additional details, are
expected to be completed and transmitted via a Public Information
Statement by later this afternoon.
