532 FXUS64 KSJT 241956 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 256 PM CDT Tue Sep 24 2024 ...New LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Wednesday) Issued at 200 PM CDT Tue Sep 24 2024 Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening, mainly in the southeastern portion of our forecast area. In fact, we are starting to see some cumulus clouds develop in the I-10 corridor, which could be a precursor for storms in the next few hours. These storms should decrease in coverage after sunset. Another cold front is expected to move through the area overnight, exiting our southern counties tomorrow morning. We could see some scattered showers and thunderstorms as the front moves through. The storms are expected to remain below severe thresholds, but lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds will be possible. Highs will drop a few degrees for Wednesday and rain chances will decrease once the front moves out of the area, leaving dry conditions for Wednesday afternoon. && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through next Tuesday) Issued at 244 PM CDT Tue Sep 24 2024 Overall quiet weather is expected as we close out September. On Thursday and Friday, our area will lie between a cutoff upper level low over the Lower Mississippi Valley and an upper level ridge over the southwestern U.S. This will put us in dry northerly flow between these two features. The aforementioned upper low begins to lift off to the north into the Ohio Valley over the weekend while the upper level high expands eastward. This will mean a continued warm and dry pattern as we head into October. Highs on Thursday and Friday will be in the mid 80s warming into the upper 80s to lower 90s for Saturday and Sunday. Lows will drop off into the 50s and lower 60s each morning. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1212 PM CDT Tue Sep 24 2024 MVFR ceilings are scattering out of the area, leaving VFR conditions for the rest of today. Morning storms have cleared out, but we could see additional showers and thunderstorms for a few hours this afternoon and evening for KJCT and KBBD. A cold front will move through overnight, turning winds from the north. Additional showers and thunderstorms will be possible along the front, but right now uncertainty is too high to include the mention of storms for most of the TAF sites. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
