Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT
352 AM MDT Thu Sep 26 2024

.SYNOPSIS...High pressure will keep conditions warmer than normal
and dry into next week, with a peak in temperatures through the
weekend.

&&

.SHORT TERM (Through 12Z/6AM Saturday)...A trough lifting from the
PacNW into Canada that brought enhanced southwest flow Wednesday
will bring weak cold air advection into southwest Wyoming and
primarily northern Utah Thursday. There will be minimal change in
temperatures, with highs for those locations a few degrees cooler,
but remaining roughly 10-15F warmer than normal.

As high pressure builds, dry conditions with relatively light
winds will last into the weekend with temperatures roughly 10-15F
warmer than normal.

.LONG TERM (After 12Z/6AM Saturday)...With high pressure firmly
entrenched across the area, expect Saturday and Saturday to
continue the trend of near record temperatures across the region.
A weak, dry cold front will push through the area later Sunday
into Monday, reducing temperatures across northern Utah around
5-10 degrees. Temperatures will gradually warm Tuesday into
Wednesday.

The record latest 100F degree day for St. George COOP is September
29. The current forecast keeps highs near to above 100F through at
least October 1.

&&

.AVIATION...KSLC...Southerly drainage winds will shift to a west to
northwest flow behind a weak cold front around 17Z today, becoming
more northwest by 19Z.

.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Mainly clear skies will be the
rule across most of Utah and southwest Wyoming today with mainly
terrain driven, diurnal winds.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...An expansive ridge of high pressure will keep much
of the west, including Utah, warmer and drier than normal at
least into next week. High temperatures will range from roughly
10-15F warmer than normal through the weekend. Light winds are
likely, but there will be single digit to teens minimum relative
humidity values each day. Slightly cooler conditions will build in
early in the week, but dry conditions are likely to last much of
the week.
