Issued at 242 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024 Currently have an upper low situated over western portions of the Tennessee Valley with Hurricane Helene quickly tracking across southern GA. Meanwhile, upper ridging is centered over the Desert Southwest. At the surface, weak lee troughing is in place with high pressure over the Great Lakes region. Upper low is expected to continue churning over the Tennessee Valley and will ingest Helene today into the evening hours. For tonight into Sat, the upper low will slightly retrograde back to the northwest over western portions of KY. This feature will finally start to progress east Sun evening into Mon. Unfortunately the upper low and tropical moisture will remain too far east to bring us rain with the only effect being some high clouds. Further west, upper ridging will remain in place across the Desert Southwest through the weekend. There is the good model agreement in a shortwave trough tracking across southwest Canada and across the Northern Intermountain Sun evening and into the Northern Plains by Mon afternoon. This will allow a cold front to move through the forecast area late Mon night into Tue morning, but with such a dry airmass in place, will not provide any precip chances. However, it will knock down highs into the 70s for Tue, but will be a brief cool-down with highs back into the 80s to finish out the work week.
