856 FNUS55 KABQ 201146 FWFABQ Fire Weather Planning Forecast for North and Central New Mexico National Weather Service Albuquerque NM 546 AM MDT Mon May 20 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1PM TO 8PM MDT TODAY FOR WESTERN NM AS WELL AS THE MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY AND THE SANDIA AND MANZANO MOUNTAINS DUE TO STRONG WINDS, VERY LOW HUMIDITY AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .DISCUSSION... Hot, dry and unstable conditions will persist through the end of the week. Windy conditions across western and portions of central NM today combined with very low humidity and high Haines values will result in critical fire weather conditions. A cold front pushing from west to east late this afternoon and evening may bring virga and/or light rain showers with microburst winds to portions of western and central NM as well. Breezy to windy conditions will return across eastern NM on Tuesday, but critical conditions are not anticipated due to ongoing green up. Less wind is in store for Wednesday, but winds will increase again Thursday through the weekend resulting in near-critical to critical conditions across the area.
