144 FXUS64 KLCH 271118 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 618 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Sunday night) Issued at 125 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024 Very tranquil conditions ongoing across the region this morning with temperatures ranging from the low to mid 60s beneath clear skies. Very little change in the overall pattern expected over the next few days. Northwesterly flow both at the surface and aloft will prevail on the southwestern side of what will become the remnants of Helene. Some slight increase in mid level moisture late Friday night into Saturday could allow for some wrap around cloud cover, but this isn`t expected to result in any precip. Daily temperatures will remain consistent through the weekend with afternoon highs in the upper 80s and overnight lows in the low to mid 60s away from the immediate coastline along with light Northwesterly winds. Jones && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Friday) Issued at 125 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024 The dry pattern continues through much of the upcoming week as plenty of dry air through the column combined with upper level ridging building in the wake of the departing remnants of Helene will keep skies mostly clear. A weak gradient at the surface will keep winds light out of the north through Wednesday. Guidance is in good agreement on tropical moisture surging back into the region Thursday into Friday with some depicting another tropical cyclone developing in the Gulf of Mexico. Not biting on that yet, but the higher moisture will likely offer increasing rain chances by late next week. Jones && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 616 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024 Clear skies will prevail through the period. Northwesterly winds will increase to around 10 MPH gusting to 20 this afternoon before becoming light again after sunset. Jones && .MARINE... Issued at 125 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024 Gusty winds over the coastal waters will gradually relax through the morning as Hurricane Helene continues to move inland. Wave heights will do the same, but will be slower to diminish through the day. A light to moderate westerly flow will prevail through the weekend with no chance of rain through early next week. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
