.SHORT TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Issued at 327 AM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

Today will be another nice and warm day with partly cloudy skies and
highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Northerly winds ahead of the
incoming system start to crank up today with wind gusts near 20 mph.
Clouds return tonight making it feel a bit warmer in the upper 50s.

Remnants of Hurricane Helene will filter into eastern Missouri
starting overnight Thursday into Friday morning. Expect rainy and
cloudy weather to persist all through Friday. Rainfall amounts have
mostly stayed the same as the previous forecast package. Again, it`s
very important to reiterate that there will likely be a sharp cutoff
in rainfall totals across the Missouri Ozarks. Highest rainfall
amounts will fall primarily east of Highway 63. These areas could see
around 1 to 2 inches of rain with pockets of localized higher
amounts by Sunday. WPC has highlighted this area with a Slight Risk
for excessive rainfall valid for Friday through Saturday. A Flood
Watch may be needed for southeastern Missouri and will be considered
over the next few forecast updates. Continue to monitor the forecast
for the latest information.

Winds will also be very gusty on Friday with the strong pressure
gradient introduced by this system. Northerly wind gusts could be
around 30-35 mph at times especially over far southeastern
Missouri.

Sunday, most of the rain will be out of the CWA with the
exception of a low chance (15-30%) of afternoon thunderstorms
for areas east of Highway 63. Highs will be in the mid 70s to
lower 80s for the weekend.

Next week will start off mostly dry with a cold front moving
through on Tuesday. This front will keep our high temperatures
