.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 218 PM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

As of 215 PM, the stretch of quiet weather is continuing today
with upper level ridging expanding across the Plains. At the
surface, an expansive area of surface high pressure continues to
reside across much of central and eastern KS. The combo of the
two features continues to yield mostly sunny skies and light
winds. The lone exception is southeast KS, where diurnal cumulus
have formed on the western periphery of a cutoff upper low.

An interesting weather scenario will play out later tonight and into
the weekend with the remnants of Hurricane Helene interacting with
the aforementioned cutoff upper low. A Fujiwhara effect appears
likely to occur with the remnants rotating around the the cutoff low
through the OH valley region. Model guidance continues to suggest
the potential for any remnant related precipitation is quite
unlikely. Meanwhile, temperatures will continue to gradually
increase through the weekend with highs returning to the low to mid
80s. The next pattern change arrives early next week as the upper
ridge breaks down with a northern stream shortwave trough traversing
the northern Plains. This will shunt an additional cold front
through the area early to mid next week, cooling temperatures back
into the 70s for Tuesday.
