Cooling will continue through Saturday with gusty southwest to west winds in the mountains and deserts with the strongest gusts this afternoon and evening with the stronger gusts to 40 to 50 mph. Night and morning coastal low clouds will extend inland across all of the valleys and onto the lower coastal slopes of the mountains with slower daytime clearing for coastal areas. High pressure to the south will bring warming for Sunday through Thursday. The marine layer will become shallower with night and morning coastal low clouds only extending inland into portions of the valleys by the middle of next week.

FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE... SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES... .SHORT TERM (Today through Sunday)... The marine layer remains around 3500 feet deep with coastal low clouds extending inland across all of the valleys and onto the lower coastal mountain slopes. The marine layer is expected to deepen to around 4500 feet tonight with some patchy drizzle possible for late tonight into Saturday morning. The cooling trend will continue into Saturday with Saturday high temperatures as much as 15 to 20 degrees below average for the mountains and inland valleys. Gusty southwest to west winds for the mountains and deserts will continue into Saturday. The strongest winds are expected for this afternoon and evening with the stronger gusts along and below the desert slopes of the mountains to 40 to 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected in the northern Coachella Valley below the San Gorgonio Pass with gusts to 65 mph. Sunday will be much warmer inland, as much as 10 to 15 degrees warmer than Saturday for the mountains of Riverside and San Diego Counties. High temperatures for the Inland Empire will be mostly in the 70s with high temperatures for the lower deserts mostly in the lower to mid 90s.

The greater warming of Sunday will continue on Monday followed by slower warming for Tuesday through Thursday. With the warming, high temperatures on next Thursday will be around 5 degrees above average for the deserts and around average for the coast and valleys, mostly in the 80s for the Inland Empire and 100 to 105 for the lower deserts. The marine layer will gradually decrease in depth to 2000 to 2500 feet for Wednesday and Thursday with night and morning coastal low clouds extending inland only into portions of the valleys.
