VFR through the TAF period, with no significant changes from the
previous 06z TAF discussion.
Drainage flow will slowly turn to more of a westerly component
this morning into the early afternoon, with speeds also increasing
this afternoon. General thought is that winds should settle in
some sort of WSW at DEN, then shift a second time later this
afternoon to more of a WNW with some stronger gusts. Still think
there`s potential for a few 25kt gusts during the late afternoon.
A cold front is expected to arrive later this evening with a turn
to a more northerly wind direction, with speeds weakening
overnight. No ceiling/visibility concerns.

VFR at all taf sites the next 24 hrs, with strong w-sw winds
gusting 25-35 kts this afternoon/early evening. Overnight,
winds diminish at KALS, while at KPUB and KCOS a cold front will
turn winds more nly after 04z-05z, with some gusts to 30 kts
possible until 12z. Gusty winds again expected Fri at KALS,
light winds at KCOS and KPUB.

chance for showers and a few storms along the CO/WY border and
the Continental Divide. Do not anticipate any showers affecting

gusty surface winds of 25 to 35 mph, and occasionally a bit
higher at times starting around 18Z and persisting through 03Z.

.AVIATION...KSLC...In the wake of departing system, terminal will
see continued NW winds through the day Thursday, with some gusts
up to 25 kts or so possible during the afternoon. Expect winds to
gradually relax approaching sunset, with a switch back to lighter
SE winds between ~03-05Z early Friday. Otherwise, expect coverage
of VFR cloud cover to generally decrease through the day.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Most active portion of
system will continue to depart the region. Behind the front, a
continued north to northwest wind direction will generally be
favored at most terminals. Many terminals will also see some
modest gusts, generally in the 20-30 kt range during the day
Thursday. Otherwise, expect generally lessening cloud cover at
northern terminals, with clear to mostly clear skies persisting at
southern terminals.

The latest storm system has moved over northwestern portions of
WY this morning. Precipitation extends from MT southward into
the Bighorn and Wind River Basins. This rain is largely
inconsequential for KCOD, KWRL, KRIW/KLND with conditions
remaining VFR. This rain will largely end and become more
focused over northwestern portions through 14Z, as the low
continues its eastward trek. Rain and snow will spread southward
through the morning and early afternoon, as the storm makes its
way toward the Black Hills through the day. Snow will remain
likely at KJAC, with KCOD and KWRL are expected to remain as
rain (although a mix of snow is not out of the question).
IFR/MVFR conditions are expected with the heaviest precipitation
between 18Z and 00Z. Mountain obscurations will be common
through 06Z.
Wind gusts of 30 to 40 kt will be widespread today, as the
gradient tightens as a result of the storm. These winds will
increase across the area through 15Z, before decreasing after
00Z. Precipitation will also quickly end across the area, from
west to east, from 00Z to 06Z.

Little change in reasoning as guidance remains consistent in
depicting VFR conditions at TAF sites through at least the
first part of the TAF period, but expect significant impacts to
aircraft operations gusty surface winds, potentially severe
thunderstorms late today/tonight, and low level wind shear for
an hour or two after issuance.
Significant low level wind shear will be present at issuance across
central and western Nebraska but expect it will wane over the
next 1 to 2 hours as the low level jet dissipates. Once diurnal
heating mixes the boundary layer this morning, surface winds
will become gusty with winds to 30kt or so expected into the
afternoon.
Guidance continues to advertise potential for 2 separate
triggers for convection, first with a dryline and then with a
cold front. Any storms with the dryline will have potential to
be discrete, individual cells with very large hail and strong
gusty winds. As the cold front overtakes the dryline and becomes
the dominant driver of convection, storms are expected to
develop into a linear complex that may produce very strong winds
and large hail as it moves from central into eastern Nebraska.
Storm initiation may occur west of Highway 83, though confidence
in exact timing and locations is not high. Will use 2 separate
periods for VCTS at KLBF and KVTN to indicate periods of best
potential for thunderstorms with the dryline followed by
thunderstorms along/ahead of the approaching cold front. All
convection with a return to VFR looks like a good bet by the end
of the valid period as convection pushes off to the east and
southeast. However winds behind the front tonight will become
quite gusty but confidence in amount of mixing is not high. Will
indicate northwesterly gusts near 30kt for KLBF and near 35kt
for KVTN thorugh the latter portion of the valid period with the
understanding that there is potential for gusts to overperform
behind the front.

Moisture return has been a bit stronger than anticipated which
is leading to MVFR ceilings at KMCK currently which is currently
forecasted to last for the next few hours. KGLD is forecast to
remain at VFR conditions as a dry line is approaching from the
west. Will continue to focus on thunderstorm potential this
afternoon with the main focus being along the dryline which is
anticipated to lie to the east of the KGLD terminal. KMCK has
the relative better potential for storms, perhaps severe. A
concern I do have with any storms that do form will be the
duration of them as the better forcing remains to the west and
north; this is reasoning for introducing a tempo group instead
of a FM group. A cold front moves through late this evening with
a sudden shift to the NW with winds; strong winds are forecast
in the 40-45 knots range; although a rogues 50+ knot gust cant
be completely ruled out. LLWS will be present as well with a
strong LLJ followed by the cold front.

A slow to erode axis of low level stratus drifting slowly eastward
through southwest Kansas will result in MVFR cigs with isolated IFR
cigs primarily in vicinity of KDDC, and later possibly KHYS, through
mid/late afternoon with widespread VFR conditions farther west.
Isolated thunderstorms may be possible along and ahead of a dryline
advancing through southwest Kansas later this afternoon, potentially
affecting areas mainly east of KDDC. Additionally, a second round
of thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of a cold
front pushing southeast across central Kansas tonight, potentially
affecting the vicinity of KHYS generally after 05-07Z. Otherwise,
expect widespread VFR conditions to continue through early Friday.
Southerly winds 15 to 30kt through early/mid-evening due to a
strengthening lee side trough of low pressure in eastern Colorado,
are expected to turn northerly around 25 to 35kt with gusts up to
45kt initially behind a cold front pushing southeast through western
Kansas generally after 04-06Z, then gradually subsiding through late
Friday morning as the front dives farther south through the Texas
Panhandle and Oklahoma.

Some low clouds this morning (leading into this 12Z TAF period)
have brought IFR conditions to KAMA and MVFR conditions to KDTH.
The south winds that have brought in these clouds will soon shift
to the southwest (by 14Z to 15Z) and drier air will be
transported in from the west, forming and pushing a dryline to
the OK state line. This will leave all terminals in VFR conditions
with breezy southwest winds around 15 to 25 kts with gust between
20 and 30 kts.

VFR prevails with increasing southwesterly winds most areas this
afternoon. Peak gusts of 25 to 35 kts will focus through the
highlands with later onset time of breezy to windy conditions in
more protected valley locations like KABQ or KROW. Winds taper
off this evening with a return to southwesterly winds by the end
of the TAF period at 18Z Friday. There will also be isolated LLWS
concerns along and just east of the ridgeline along the Sangre de
Cristo Mountains. This will include the KAXX terminal, and perhaps
KLVS and KRTN.
