Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
616 PM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

...New AVIATION (00Z TAFS)...

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Friday night)
Issued at 213 PM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

High pressure will continue to settle southward over the area
tonight and Friday. With light winds, clear skies, and dry air, look
for maximal radiational cooling, which should give a tendency for
temperatures to be a little below the NBM operational and 50th
percentile values due to the bias correction still accounting for
the recent warm period even while the pattern just changed to a
drier profile. Thus, expect tonight`s lows a few degrees lower than
Thursday night, except along the Rio Grande Plains, where weak,
southerly return flow will develop toward daybreak Friday. Daytime
highs on Friday will be warmer than today and 5-8F above normal, as
a dry profile during daytime with full sun produces near maximal
sensible heating. Friday night`s temperatures will be similar to
tonight.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Thursday)
Issued at 213 PM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

Surface high pressure over the southern plains will keep the weather
dry in South-Central Texas for most of the long term period. The dry
airmass will remain in place and there won`t be any significant
change. Temperatures will remain mainly steady with highs mostly in
the 90s and lows starting in the 50s and 60s and reaching near 70
across the south by the end of the period. By Wednesday or Thursday
the low level flow will turn around to the southeast and there is a
slight chance for showers and thunderstorms over the Coastal Plains.

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 615 PM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

VFR flying conditions and winds less than 10 kts should result in
excellent weather for the region through the next 24-30 hours. No
other issues to highlight at this time.
