...NWS Damage Survey for 05/25-26/2024 Tornado/Damaging Thunderstorm
Wind Event - Update 3...

.Update...Updated to discuss high-end damaging wind swaths outside of
tornadoes across portions of Benton County

.Overview...NWS Tulsa meteorologists surveyed storm damage for five
out of the past six days, from mainly one long-track supercell that
intensified over Noble County, Oklahoma, moved eastward across Tulsa,
Rogers, Mayes, Delaware, Benton, and Carroll Counties during the
late evening of 5/25 and early morning of 5/26. This supercell
produced at least eleven tornadoes (detailed below) in the NWS Tulsa
service area, as well as extensive straight-line wind damage, mostly
associated with its rear flank downdraft.

Some of this straight-line wind damage was especially intense along
the storm`s track, producing extensive damage in the 80 to 100 mph
range that was several miles wide in some areas. A lot of this
damage occurred to the south of the tornado tracks, and was particulary
noted along the tracks of the Claremore/Pryor tornado at times, near
Colcord through the south side of the Decatur 1 tornado, across much
of Bentonville and along the southside of the Bentonville/Rogers
tornado, and from southern Rogers and Lowell into the War Eagle and
Clifty areas. This extensive and intense straight-line wind damage
made surveying this supercell`s tornadoes very complicated, and the
aggressive rear flank downdraft resulted in some atypical tornado
motions and tracks.

We continue to evaluate data for this event, and additional tornadoes
may be added in the future after further review.

.BENTON COUNTY ARKANSAS DAMAGING WIND SWATHS...

Several areas of very broad, high-end wind damage in Benton County
associated with this supercell thunderstorm have been reviewed by
our survey teams for each of the five days we spent in the field
surveying this event. There is a tremendous amount of thunderstorm
wind damage that we drove through over the past week, a lot of which
is very significant and high-end. A lot of the straight-line wind
swaths associated with this long-lived supercell were several miles
wide, with winds in the 80 to 100 mph range across a broad swath.

The supercell that produced the tornadoes and damaging wind was
generally moving east during this period of time, and many of these
wind swaths were oriented from northwest to southeast, resulting in
the majority of the damage produced in these swaths to be in a
southeasterly direction. Unbelievable amounts of trees were uprooted
by these winds across Benton County, and some even snapped, almost
all of which were to the southeast. Some structural damage occurred
from these winds, and many trees fell onto structures within these
swaths. A large number of power poles were also snapped in these
areas.

Much of Bentonville was impacted by these extreme straight-line winds,
as were other areas of Benton County, such as Little Flock, Avoca,
the Beaver Lake area, including Rocky Branch, Lowell, Hobbs State
Park, and War Eagle. Much of the damage in these areas would be
considered similar to that of the damage from an EF-1 tornado,
given the estimated wind speeds within many of these swaths, only on
a much broader scale of a couple to several miles wide. Other areas
of Benton County also experienced wind damage from this supercell,
outside of the tornadoes and the areas of straight-line wind damage
noted above.

We appreciate the collaboration we had to evaluate this damage with
Benton County Emergency Management and the weather team at KNWA, both
of whom provided valuable information regarding the damage through
their flyovers of the damage in helicopters and the use of drones.
