The threat for snow has ended. However, gusty winds may continue to produce areas of blowing snow. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. * WHERE...Thompson Pass. * WHEN...Until 6 AM AKST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less due to snow and blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult. Frostbite may occur in as little as 10 minutes on exposed skin. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An arctic airmass will continue to drive colder air and strong winds through Thompson Pass. The combination of snow already on the ground, along with additional snowfall expected and strong gap winds, will likely lead to snow and blowing snow that may severely reduce visibility. Snow is likely to taper off starting Sunday morning, however, gusty winds will persist. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel very hazardous. Persons should delay travel if possible. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you, and make sure your car is winterized and in good working order. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat. Wind chills as low as 15 to 25 below zero falling to as low as 25 to 40 below zero by Sunday. * WHERE...Broad Pass, Richardson Highway from south of Isabel Pass to Paxson, and along the Tok Cutoff from Mentasta Pass to north of Gakona. * WHEN...Until 9 PM AKST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The combination of wind and falling temperatures will result in wind chill values as low as 25 below zero through Broad Pass and 40 below zero across the far northern Copper River Basin. In addition, a compact low will move towards the island from the northeast later today with snow spreading over the northern side of the island this afternoon and continuing through Sunday afternoon.
