Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...

Precipitation will gradually come to an end today, but humidity will
remain rather high (above 50%) east of the Missouri River, with
mostly cloudy skies and cool temperatures. West of the Missouri,
sunshine is expected at some point this afternoon with humidity
generally between 40 and 50 percent. Winds will be from the
northwest across the area.

A cold front will move east across the area on Tuesday, with
northwest winds becoming gusty across central South Dakota during
the afternoon. Humidity is forecast to fall between 25 and 35
percent from Corson county southward to Jones county. Much higher
humidity and showers and thunderstorms are expected further east.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.


The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
